We are glad other groups are moving forward with this lawsuit to fight this
law. We also intend to file our own lawsuit, which we expect will be consolidated
so we can work together to defeat this discriminatory law.
STATEMENT: BOBBY C. BILLIE
This law was created by Senator Jim King to silence me because of the stand
I took against St. Johns River Water Management District, Marshall Creek Developer
Hines Corp., and Hawley Smith and other developers throughout Florida. I took
a stand against them through legal proceedings in order to protect my peoples'
Ancient Burial Grounds and the Natural Systems especially the water bodies and
wetlands. I know we would not survive if we destroy God's Creation. Agencies
involved with permitting do not have the staff or time to adequately review
these projects. People must take an active role in the protection of the water
and air.
I believe Jim King's remarks have shown prejudice against
Indigenous People, and throughout the legal proceedings against Marshall Creek
Development. I also endured racism and prejudice.
I intend to fight this law and get rid of it. I will stand up for my rights,
my rights of this land, Indigenous Burial Grounds, my peoples' future and rights
of my younger generations.
Everyone has a right to stand up for the future of the next generations. Everyone
has a right to stand up against destroying the Trees, the Water, the Air and
the Earth and the People. If you destroy those lives, God's Creation, which
is the natural creation no one is going to survive. All laws should support
the right and freedom to protect the natural creation.
STATEMENT: SHANNON LARSEN
I made a decision to jointly file a lawsuit to fight this law because I believe that people must have the right to oppose projects that will affect
the water bodies of this state, wetlands, and air quality. I do not feel
that the agencies responsible to oversee these gifts are doing their job and
until they do, people must take on that responsibility. Unless we have
the right to protect the water, and air, we are not going to survive. Because of irresponsible permitting we are already faced with water shortages, and the grim future of drinking waste and salt water. We must take a stand together to protect these gifts. This law denies us this right, and I intend
to fight this law and get rid of it.
